Insurance agent charged with CBT, cheating involving RM800,000

KUALA LUMPUR: An insurance agent pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) and cheating involving more than RM800,000.

In the CBT charge, Chong Wai Sung, 44, was alleged to have failed to use RM619,441.73 belonging to his client, Pertama Makmur Sdn Bhd, to buy an insurance policy from Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Berhad and causing the policy to be canceled.

Chong was accused of committing the offence at Permata Makmur’s office at Kuchai Entrepreneur Park, Off Jalan Kuchai Lama, Brickfields here, between Sept 19, 2011 and Dec 24, 2012.

He was also alleged to have presented two fake policy endorsement certificates to cheat the construction supply company into believing that its insurance policy would be extended from March 10, 2014 to Dec 10, 2014 and encouraged the company to give him RM223,475.67 at the same place, between April 2, 2014 and July 31, 2014.

Judge Mat Ghani Abdullah allowed Chong bail of RM50,000 in one surety and set Jun 6 for re-mention.--BERNAMA
