Swimmer Chai Lin focuses on retaining sea games gold medal

KUALA LUMPUR: National swimmer Khoo Chai Lin is determined to keep her gold medal at the SEA Games in Singapore which starts next week.

The 27-year-old senior athlete is among Malaysia’s hopes for a medal haul at the games.

Despite being fully ready for the task at hand, Chai Lin said she could not afford to be overconfident as she would be facing stiff competition from her Thai and Singaporean challengers.

“At this point I have no injury and am mentally prepared, but I must remain focused to make sure that the gold medal does not go to another country,” she told reporters at the launch of a new Milo product, ‘Nutri G’, in Bangsar today.

Chai Lin, who will head to Singapore with other members of the national swimming squad on Tuesday, will take part in the 200, 400 and 800-metre freestyle event.

At the SEA Games in Myanmar two years ago, Chai Lin won the gold in the 800-metre freestyle event. -- Bernama
