Towards a leaner nation

Getting the nation to be healthier requires early intervention, which is battling childhood obesity, an uphill task given the cultural perception that a chubby child is a healthy child.

But experts agree that in order to not let overweight and obese children grow up into adults with conditions that predispose them to chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes, families and the community have to work hand in hand to gradually reverse this trend, writes Women, Fashion and Health writer Nadia Badarudin.
