Malaysia to host first BFA Conference

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will host the first Boao Forum for Asia Energy, Resources and Sustainable Development Conference on June 10 aimed at promoting regional economic integration.

Organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI), the two-day forum will focus on energy, resources and sustainable development, as well as, discuss China’s ‘One Belt and One Road’ (OBOR) initiative.

ASLI Chief Executive Officer and Director Tan Sri Dr Michael Yeoh said the Boao Forum was the Chinese equivalent of the World Economic forum and offered good opportunities for Malaysian businessmen to make a lasting impact, not just benefitting the country but for all South East Asian nations.

“One aim of the forum is to revitalise the Maritime Silk Road with the emergence of China playing a pivotal role in mutual regional prosperity,” he added.

China would send a delegation of 70 participants, led by its Former Vice-Premier and accompanied by several former Ministers and Vice Ministers of the republic, as well as, several leading businessman, he said.

Meanwhile, World Chinese Economic Forum Patron and Honorary Advisor to ASLI Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew said the Boao forum was brought to Malaysia by the Chinese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and would be attended by 200 participants.

“This year, Chinese President Xi Jinping talked about OBOR in Boao which is a dynamic idea, which also implied that peaceful development in China does not only benefit the country but also the whole world,” Lee added. – BERNAMA
