Mandatory for households to separate waste

SEREMBAN: The government is serious about enforcing the law requiring the people to separate solid waste according to types in suitable plastic bags before dumping them at home.

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government deputy minister, Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique said it would be implemented in stages from this Sept 1.

“On July 1, we will begin distributing pamphlets on the matter and by Sept 1, reminders will be issued to households which still do not comply with the regulation.

“From Jan 1, 2016, a maximum fine of RM1,000 will be imposed on those who still do not do so,” she told reporters after opening the seventh anniversary celebration of SWCorp and Clean City Convention here today.

Separation of solid waste will be fully enforced in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Pahang, Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Perlis and Kedah. –Bernama
