Home Ministry told to prepare detail report on border security cooperation plans

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has instructed the Home Ministry to prepare a detailed report on plans to cooperate with the Armed Forces in securing the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the report would entail the specific delegation of tasks to be carried out by the Armed Forces, Police, and other relevant enforcement agencies.

The plans, he said, would be presented to cabinet as soon as possible.

He said the plans would most likely see the Armed Forces take on the front-line border patrols while the police and other agencies, such as the Immigration and Customs departments, would handle the enforcement aspects.

This came in light of the discovery of 139 graves at 28 camps at the Malaysian side of the border in Bukit Wang Kelian, in Perlis last month.

Zahid said the Home Ministry would implore the government's Blue Ocean Strategy in handling the issue.

"This was why it is compulsory for us to build a wall because without a solid border, it was difficult for agencies to have control," he told a press conference after the ministry's monthly gathering, here, this morning.
