Game of Thrones star Jessica Henwick talks nudity

SINGAPORE: “I haven’t had to go naked yet on Game Of Thrones,” said actress Jessica Henwick, who plays Nymeria Sand on the show.

“However, if they had approached me, I don’t know. It’s hard to say without being in that position or reading the script first,” explained the 22-year-old who was in the island republic recently to promote Game Of Throne’s fifth season finale.

She is the series’ first cast member of Asian descent and the first East Asian actress to play a leading role in a British TV series.

A global TV phenomenon, the HBO’s Emmy and Golden Globe winning series is synonymous with its violent and nudity elements.

Therefore, it is only natural for Henwick who is of Singaporean Chinese and British descent to scrutinise the contract before agreeing to be involved in the show.

“As a viewer of the series, I knew what I would be getting into, but when they gave me my contract, it was very clear what I would be needed to do.

Henwick said that she’s happy with her contract. However, even though there is a no-nudity clause, the show’s lewd reputation has proven to cause a problem for her.

“Immediately after the announcement was made on my joining the cast, I was contacted by someone on Twitter.

“They said ‘Are you going to get your assets out?’ They tagged my dad in that public tweet and also added some hand-clapping emojis,” she said.

The offensive matter became progressively worse and worse, and she immediately blocked the Twitter user.

“I told my dad, ‘Can you not go on Twitter for a couple of days please? Because there are a lot of weird people out there.’”

Henwick’s 19-year-old co-star Rosabell Laurenti Sellers who plays Nymeria’s sister Tyene, on the other hand, had to shed her clothes for a scene in episode 7.

“It was cold, and poor Rosabell had to strip naked. She was fine and very comfortable with it, though. It didn’t feel any different from any other work day.”

She giggled. “In the scene, I was standing behind her so I didn’t see her chest.

“It was shocking to finally watch the episode and hear people talk about it, because she’s like my little sister.”

Game Of Thrones Season 5 also stars Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headey and Sophie Turner.

In the season finale which comes on air on Monday at 9am over HBO (Astro Channel 411/431) with a repeat at 9pm, Stannis Baratheon marches, Daenerys Targaryen is surrounded by strangers, while Cersei Lannister seeks forgiveness and Jon Snow is challenged.
