Sea Games: Najib congratulates Malaysian contingent

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak congratulated Malaysian athletes for their success in winning 62 gold, 58 silver and 66 bronze medals at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

Najib in his Facebook posting said the achievement in Singapore was better than the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia (59) and 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar (43).

“We went to Singapore with a target of winning 184 medals but we managed to win 186. You made all of us and your country proud. Thank you,” he said.

About 7,000 athletes from 11 countries participated in the SEA Games which featured 36 sports from June 5 to 16.

Malaysia who host the 2017 SEA Games had emerged as the overall champion when hosting the games in 2001 with 111 gold, 98 silver and 68 bronze medals.--BERNAMA
