Singer Ronnie Hussein leaves Hyper Act

KUALA LUMPUR: Shahron “Ronnie” Hussein, the lead singer of award-winning pop-rock group Hyper Act has gone solo.

The 36-year-old confirmed rumours that he and his band had parted ways.

“I left the group three weeks ago. While I don’t want to disclose the reasons behind it, all I can say is that my former bandmates and I had some disagreements over the direction of our band, and we’ve decided to part ways,” he said.

His days in the band have come to an end. The look of regret on his face was obvious but he said, “Change is bound to happen and and the best thing to do is to move on as a solo artiste,” he added.

Ronnie said this at the launch of his new single titled Dikoyak Waktu, composed by Aepul of Drama Band, at Chuckles restaurant in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, yesterday.

“The important thing is, we’ve parted ways as friends, and I’m still in good terms with my former band mates. They’ve okayed me singing songs that hark back to my Hyper Act days, and we’re very comfortable appearing together in television shows,” said the singer who had participated in 8TV’s reality talent show One In A Million Season 2 in 2008.

When asked if he would join another band, he shook his head saying that he was happy being a soloist for a change.

“I’ve been singing with a group called Sunday for four years, before joining NRG for five years. I also sang with the group Slam for a year and spent the last six years in Hyper Act,” he said.

Ronnie thanked his ex-band mates for “giving him a chance to share their stardom” and the second prize at the 28th Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL 28), for the song Hanya Aku last year.

Hyper Act’s other members are Khairul Nizam “Toi” Baharom (bassist), Zakir “Akir” Rahizan (keyboardist), Freddy Adnan (guitarist), Sharizan “Intan” Syarifudin (guitarist) and Zamri “Labib” Haron (drummer).

The group was formed in 2009 and its members are old friends from Johor Baru, Johor.

Toi was a finalist in Astro’s TV reality show Akademi Fantasia Season 6 in 2008.

Hyper Act’s other hit songs include Harapan, Ku Tiba Lagi and Cinta.

Ronnie had a hit duet Bintang Harapan with Indonesian singer Yanti Aryanto prior to OIAM.
