Pakatan no longer functions formally, says Wan Azizah

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today admitted that following recent developments, Pakatan would no longer function formally.

She said PKR “expresses regret” on the resolution that was accepted without debate at the 61st Pas Muktamar and subsequently the DAP Central Executive Committee’s “hasty” announcement of the end of Pakatan.

“In light of this, the political coalition that is Pakatan Rakyat no longer functions formally,” Wan Azizah said in a statement.

She said the party’s political bureau that met on June 16 decided that PKR would continue to support the state leaderships in Selangor, Penang and Kelantan, headed by PKR, DAP and Pas respectively.

Wan Azizah said PKR “will continue to pioneer efforts to build a coalition among political parties, non-governmental organisations, groups and influential individuals to defeat Barisan Nasional”.

The loose coalition of Pakatan was established after the 12th General Elections in 2008 to bring together the three largest opposition parties in the country.
