KEPALA BATAS: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today said that the party would proceed with its agenda to implement hudud in Kelantan, despite some quarters rejecting the Islamic law.
He said PAS would not shift from its stand to implement the law and would amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) so that the law could be implemented in Kelantan.
“In this matter, PAS does not want to fight, but they are quarters wanting to fight with us. Let them be, let them make noise, we go ahead with our agenda,” he said at the party’s ceramah (political talk) in Pongsu Seribu here last night.
Also present were PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and vice-president Idris Ahmad.
Abdul Hadi said hudud law was not intended to penalise criminals, but to educate them and protect the victims.
“For example, the whipping sentence. It is not the same as the whipping sentence imposed by civil courts.
In Islam, whipping is done without breaking the skin of the offenders, but to educate them and to deter others from committing the offence. A person can be sentenced to 100 whips, but the whippings will not break the skin,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim advised PAS members to not damage the party’s good name.
“PAS is a party which has manners, moral and regulations which have to be observed by all party members,” he added.--BERNAMA
