Aug 5 set for Najib-Rafizi suit

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court set Aug 5 for case management of a defamation suit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife against PKR vice-president Mohd Rafizi Ramli and an online news portal owner.

Counsel Choo Shi Jin, who acted for Najib and co-plaintiff Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, said judge Datuk Noraini Abdul Rahman fixed the date during case management today.

Choo added that Noraini set July 8 for Rafizi and co-defendant Chan Chee Kong to file their amended defence and counterclaim.

"She set July 22 for the plaintiffs (Najib and Rosmah) to file their amended reply (to the amended defence and counterclaim)," Choo said.

Counsel Ng Siau Sun appeared for Rafizi and Chan, who runs online portal Mediarakyat.net.

Barisan Nasional leader Najib and Rosmah alleged PKR secretary-general Rafizi issued slanderous statements over the oil subsidy cut.

Pandan MP Rafizi allegedly uttered the remarks during a forum at Bandar Tun Razak on Nov 22.

Rafizi's speech was recorded and uploaded to Media Rakyat's news portal.

Pekan MP Najib and Rosmah seek unspecified general, aggravated and exemplary damages, interest, and a published apology, among others.
