Three Indonesians get 10 months jail for beating cop

KUALA LUMPUR: The magistrate's court sentenced three Indonesian men to 10 months jail for using sticks to injure a police corporal during a riot three months ago.

Randi Mahmud, Orip Bila, and Yuzamri Yunus were ordered today by magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin to serve the jail time from their dates of arrest.

Randi and Orip's jail time runs from April 22 while Yuzamri's jail term begins from April 23.

On April 22 around 7.10pm, Randi, Orip, Yuzamri, and several others still at large had beaten Corporal Norhalwanhakin Shah Mohd Shariff with sticks when he and another police corporal rode on a motorcycle into Kampung Sungai Penchala.

The village was located at Taman Tun Dr Ismail here.

Seven other accused - comprised of Indonesians Suherman, Firman, and Pitriadi; and Malaysians Sabri Baharudin, Usman Ahmad Sahrozi, Muhammad Sharul Masjir, and Jakrin Pranatta Jailani - did not plead guilty to the same charge.

The charge of armed rioting is punishable with five years' jail, fine, or both if convicted under Section 148 of the Penal Code.
