A wife and her male friend caught for drug trafficking activities

MARANG: Police arrested two people, a wife and her male friend for drug trafficking and seized 1020 methamphetamine pills and 50 grams of syabu worth RM27,800 from them during a raid at a rented house at Taman Al Amin in Bukit Payong here, on Monday night.

Acting district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the duo were a 38-year-old woman, who owns a food stall and a mother of four, and her 24-year-old male friend.

Mohd Adli said the two suspects were together in a room during the 11.30pm raid.

"Checks showed that the pills and syabu were hidden on a rack in the room," he said adding that both were believed to be active in distributing drugs at Bukit Payong and Marang.

He said police also seized RM5,300 cash believed to be from drug dealings and a car worth about RM35,000.

Mohd Adli in a press conference at the Marang police station today said the woman's husband is serving his jail term for a criminal offence early last month.

He said the while the woman tested negative for drugs, her friend was tested positive and had six previous drug-related offences.

Both suspects are being investigated under Section 39A (2) and 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

They are being remanded until July 6.
