General manager charged with abusing his position

KUANTAN: A district Farmers Organisation (PPK) general manager was charged at the Special Corruptions Sessions Court here today for abusing his position to appoint a company owned by his wife to supply cattle for a project in Rompin four years ago.

Suriadi Abdul Jalal, 54, claimed trial for allegedly committing the offence at the Rompin PPK office on July 15 2011.

He was charged for appointing his wife Rozila Ariffin's company, Syarikat SR Teras Tani Enterprise to supply 79 cows for a project in Rompin.

Judge Habibah Mohd Yusof fixed bail at RM7,000 with one surety and fixed July 28 for mention.

MACC deputy public prosecutor Shafinaz Shabudin appeared for prosecution.

Later, in the same court, two policemen were charged with soliciting and receiving RM200 bribe from a lorry driver as a favour to release him from a road offence last year.

Lance Corporal Rosdi Mat Kaha, 46, and Constable Mohd Izamie Ismail, 30, were charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

The first accuse Rosdi was charged for soliciting the cash through Izamie from the lorry driver about 10.30am along Jalan Kuantan-Gambang on Jun 11 2014 while Izamie was charged for receiving the cash from the same lorry driver about 2.25pm at a food stall in Jaya Gading on the same day.

The cash inducement was to release the lorry driver who had committed an offence under the Road Transport Act 1987 for transporting goods without covering them with a canvas.

Habibah fixed bail at RM4,000 for Rosdi and RM3,000 for Izamie.

Shafinaz prosecuted while Rosdi was represented by Mohammed Hissham Ramdzam and Rahiza Zulkifli appeared for Izamie.

Habibah fixed July 28 for mention.
