Bursa Malaysia opens higher on follow through support

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened higher today driven by follow through support and persistent buying interest in selected heavyweights, dealers said.

At 9.04am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) increased 3.38 points at 1,737.71, after opening 2.35 points higher at 1,737.23.

Market breadth was positive with gainers beating decliners 124 to 70 while 95 counters were unchanged, 1,510 untraded and 13 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 50.92 million shares worth RM18.33 million.

Among heavyweights, Tenaga and Sime Darby each rose eight sen to RM12.74 and RM8.74, respectively.

Petronas Chemicals added five sen to RM6.46 and Astro gained four sen to RM3.08.

Among active stocks, Managepay systems increased 1.5 sen to eight sen, Jaks Resources inched up one sen to 86.5 and iDimension Consolidated eased one sen to 12.5 sen.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index climbed 25.68 points to 11,996.60, the FBMT100 Index rose 26.19 points to 11,678.53 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index garnered 32.77 points to 12,465.45.

The FBM Ace, meanwhile, decreased 16 points to 6,331.34 but the FBM 70 climbed 31.00 points to 13,012.57.

On a sectoral basis, the Plantation Index improved 2.4 points to 7,453.44 and the Finance Index went up 14.62 points to 15,674.84 while the Industrial Index was 9.36 points higher at 3,218.94. --BERNAMA
