Housewives urged to be eyes and ears of law enforcement

SHAH ALAM: Housewives are urged to become the eyes and ears of the law enforcement in an effort to keep their neighbourhoods safer and crime rate down during the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

Yesterday, 20 female officers from the all-women police team from the Shah Alam district police headquarters called "Amanita" visited shoppers and traders at the PKNS complex as part of their community service programme to create awareness about the 'Engage Housewives in Neighbourhood Safety' programme.

During the visit, the officers spent about an hour walking and visiting outlets and interacting with the traders, as well as shoppers.

They also handed out brochures on crime safety and prevention, including information on Amanita and 'Balik Kampung' form.

Amanita officer, Inspector Hawa Mohd Nor said this is the team's first visit to the PKNS complex since Amanita was established.

"This visit is held to raise awareness among the public, especially women and to strengthen the relationship between the police and the public.

"We want housewives to be involved because we believe that they can become the eyes and ears of the police. We believe that they can help us reduce crime in their residential areas," she said, adding that the team would also visit other shopping malls in Shah Alam and Ramadan bazaars.

Hawa said she was confident that more housewives will come forth and report crimes in their neighbourhood through the programme.
