Ringgit opens weaker against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: – The ringgit opened weaker against the US dollar on lack of demand following negative sentiment brought about by Greece’s debt crisis.

At 9.27 am, the local currency was quoted at 3.8060/8080 against 3.8050/8080 on Monday.

A dealer said the fall in the ringgit was in tandem with other regional peers as the greenback continued to strenghten.

Against other major currencies, the local unit was traded mostly higher except against the British pound.

It rose versus the Singapore dollar to 2.8145/8162 from 2.8189/8226 on Monday, appreciated against the yen to 3.1014/1035 from 3.1036/1073 and gained against the euro to 4.2045/2075 from 4.2087/2128 previously.

The local currency, however, fell against the pound sterling to 5.9351/9401 from 5.9202/9260 on Monday. -- BERNAMA
