Ringgit opens higher against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: – The ringgit opened marginally higher against the US dollar on renewed buying support for the local note.

At 9.04 am, the local currency was quoted at 3.8050/8080 against 3.8060/8080 on Tuesday.

A dealer said the ringgit was steady probably due to some intervention by the central bank to curb its slide.

Against other major currencies, the local unit was traded mostly lower except against the British pound.

It eased versus the Singapore dollar to 2.8060/8103 from 2.8058/8074 on Tuesday, depreciated against the yen to 3.1125/1157 from 3.1026/1048 and fell against the euro to 4.1825/1869 from 4.1737/1762 previously.

The local currency, however, rose against the pound sterling to 5.8768/8834 from 5.9020/9062 on Tuesday. -- BERNAMA
