Shamsubahrin issued temporary restraining order

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court issued a five-day order against National Feedlot Corporation's (NFCorp) former consultant Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail to prevent him from repeating alleged defamation linked to his Facebook (FB) postings.

Judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab issued the interim injunction to maintain the status quo in the libel suit by NFCorp chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail against Shamsubahrin until Monday next week.

Zaki fixed Monday to hear Salleh's bid for a further interim injunction to go into effect from that day until disposal of the suit.

Salleh's counsel Al-Firdaus Shahrul Naing told Zaki that they would also be filing an application to recuse counsel Zarina Ismail from acting for Shamsubahrin.

"The counsel for the defendant is his sister and represented him in the early stages of his case," Al-Firdaus said.

Al-Firdaus was referring to Shamsubahrin's case of cheating Salleh and money laundering, of which the defendant was recently convicted for.

On July 3, Salleh sued Shamsubahrin over his six FB postings on his cheating and money-laundering conviction.

Salleh claimed that Shamsubahrin's postings, uploaded between May 19 and June 23, painted Shamsubahrin's conviction as an attempt to divert public attention from the NFCorp issue involving the government's RM250 million loan to fund a cattle-rearing project.

On May 18, Shamsubahrin was convicted of five counts of cheating Salleh and 17 counts of money laundering involving RM1.755 million.
