Dortmund routs Darul Ta'zim 6-1 in friendly

JOHOR BARU: Former German Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund wrapped up their two-match Asian Tour with 6-1 rout of Malaysian title holders Johor Darul Ta'zim in a friendly match at the Larkin Stadium on Thursday.

Darul Ta'zim had gone into the game on the back of 32 undefeated competitive fixtures at home but were no match of the Germans, who rarely moved out of second gear.

Dortmund's precise passing movement often left Darul Ta'zim chasing shadows as they went 3-0 behind with just over a half-hour played in front of 12,800 spectators.

Ilkay Gundogan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kevin Kampl scored in a 10-minute spell midway through the first half before Gary Steven Robbat pulled one back with a fine finish before the break.

Shinji Kagawa, who scored twice in Dortmund's 6-0 win over Japan's Kawasaki Frontale on Tuesday, Jeremy Dudziak and Marco Reus netted in the second half.

In a nod of respectability to their hosts, Dortmund fielded a side boasting nine internationals plus centre-back David Sauerland and winger Jan Gorenc Stankovic from their reserve squad.

Super League champions Darul Ta'zim could also point to nine national players in their starting XI, even with Safiq Rahim left on the bench. Jasazrin Jamaluddin and Brazilian defender Marcos Antonio Santos were the odd ones out.

It did not take long for Dortmund to make the breakthrough when playmaker Gundogan curled in a free-kick inside the near post to leave goalkeeper Farizal Marlias rooted to the spot after 21 minutes.

Gabon striker Aubameyang made it 2-0 eight minutes later after finishing an incisive move on the right flank involving Stankovic and Marcel Schmelzer.

A howler by Farizal in the 32nd minute when he let the ball slip from his grasp allowed Kampl to score into an unguarded net.

Defender Aidil Zafuan Radzak and winger Mahalli Jasuli did not see the half out as they were replaced by Fadhli Shas and Nazrin Nawi respectively and the changes brought immediate rewards.

Gary Steven, who had a brief training stint with the German club in March, expertly side-volleyed a lob by Amri Yahyah in the 39th minute to reduce the arrears.

Dortmund changed their entire side at half-time and Japan forward Kagawa spurned a chance to make it 4-1 when his close-range effort struck the crossbar.

Kagawa was not to be denied, however, scoring in the 73rd minute after a smart move involving Reus and Mitsuro Maruoka before solo efforts by Dudziak and Reus stretched the score to 6-1 in the last nine minutes.
