KPDNKK seizes counterfeit mobile phones worth RM500,000

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) seized RM500,000 worth of mobile phones believed to be counterfeits during a raid in Pertama Complex, here, yesterday.

Its city director Muez Abd Aziz said the raiding team had scoured the premises of traders selling cell phones and accessories including the stores.

Mobile phones of several brands including Samsung, iPhone, Lenovo, Oppo and Nokia during the operation at 3.30pm.

Five cases were investigated under Section 8 of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 under prohibition of false trade description in relation to trademark.

Four other cases, he said, were investigated under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

"The traders were compounded RM2,000 on the spot," he said,

Muez said the operation was conducted by 70 KPDNKK personnel and 10 policemen.
