Man gets 3-year jail term for burglary

GEORGE TOWN: Sessions Court judge today sentenced a 45-year-old burglar to three years jail after he had broken into a house and stolen valuables worth RM3,000 in Jelutong last month.

Cheah Hai Guan pleaded guilty to stealing air-conditioners, gas tanks, smoke detectors, kettle, money and coin box on Jun 22 around 11pm in front of Judge Zahara Hussain.

According to the statement of facts, he was caught red-handed while trying to escape from the apartment in Jelutong.

He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house break-in and theft, which may face up to a maximum jail sentence of 14 years and fine.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Pang Chuin Keat prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
