Magnitude 5.3 quake hits Java

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Java, Indonesia at 5.44am, today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement said the earthquake’s epicentre was 134km southeast of Banjar, Indonesia and 1,068km southwest of Tebedu, Sarawak.

The quake did not pose a tsunami threat. --BERNAMA
