Najib praises police for fight against drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak commended the police for doing a good job in snuffing out the drug menace in the country.

Najib via his personal Twitter account @NajibRazak congratulated the police and asked them to keep up their good work.

He said: "Since the establishment of the Narcotics Department and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting), the police have managed to seize more drugs. Carry on with the war against this crime."

The prime minister's tweet was in response to a drug bust carried out by Sting earlier this morning at Desa Melawati.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar via his Twitter account @KBAB51 congratulated the team for the drug bust.

Khalid said: “Syabas STING @PDRMsia, petang semlm berjaya tangkap 22 org Warga Pakistan dan rampas lebih 34 Kg Heroin di Desa Melawati KL. Go PDRM Go. (Congratulations to STING@PDRMsia for arresting 22 Pakistani nationals and seizing over 34kg of heroin at Desa Melawati KL. Go PDRM GO).”

It is reported that the police had seized a huge amount of drugs, believed to be heroin, stashed inside a container filled with hay.
