The Edge group owner, publisher summoned by police again

KUALA LUMPUR: The Edge Media Group chairman Datuk Tong Kooi Ong and its publisher Ho Kay Tat will be called again to give their statements in connection with 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) probe.

The two were summoned to Bukit Aman following articles relating to 1MDB published in The Edge Financial Daily.

The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the two were scheduled to have their statements taken today but it was postponed due to a funeral.

"We are informed that Tong's mother had passed away yesterday, so the session was postponed for now," he told reporters at federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman today.

Khalid said the two were among the individuals that would be called to assist investigation into the 1MDB issues after he was briefed on the updates of investigation involving Swiss citizen Xavier Andre Justo by counterparts in Bangkok, Thailand.

"I would like to clarify that our request was not rejected by the Thai police but they simply cannot give us the space to investigate Justo as they have not concluded their investigation. If it was us, we would have done the same.

"However, I was briefed thoroughly on the updates on their investigation including Justo's confession in detail," he said.

When asked if the appointment of the new Attorney-General would not affect investigation into 1MDB, Khalid said the normal arrangements between Attorney-General's Chambers would continue as usual despite changes.

Former Federal Court judge Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali has replaced Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail as the new Attorney-General.
