Rapid Bus (BRT- Sunway Line) to start impose fare beginning August 1

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd will begin imposing fares for their buses along the Bus Rapid Transit - Sunway Line (BRT- Sunway Line) starting tomorrow, after offering the public two months of complimentary service said Rapid Bus chief executive officer Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff.

The fares are from RM1.60 up to RM5.40 per trip, while a full fare table would be displayed at all stations along the line, he added in a statement to the press yesterday.

“We have received the approved fare structure from the Land Public Transport Department (SPAD) and would start charging for the service from tomorrow,” he said thanking passengers and SPAD for their feedback and support.

Earlier SPAD announced the distance-based fare structure for BRT fares which was approved by the Cabinet on July 29.

It stated that the initial cost of 90 sen for basic costs, 81.5 sen per km will be charged for the first 6km, followed by 51.3 sen per km for the 6km to 12km leg, 42.1 sen per km for the 12km to 18km leg, and another 28.2 sen per km for the 18km to 24km leg.

Beyond the 24km mark, another 21.2 sen will be charged per km.

"The fare structure sets the maximum allowable fares for BRT services by operators. Therefore individual operators are not allowed to impose fares exceeding the fare structure," read the statement to the press.
