Three arrested to facilitate their probe into the Sarawak Report

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested three people, including a former committee member with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Advisory Board, to facilitate their probe into the Sarawak Report.

The committee member, who is also a Tan Sri, was believed to have been picked up earlier today and brought to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters for questioning.

The other two people picked up were a member of the Attorney-General’s Chambers finance and Anti-Money Laundering administration section, while the other was an MACC deputy public prosecutor, seconded from the AG’s Chambers.

In a statement earlier, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the arrests were made following several police reports lodged against Sarawak Report founder Clare Rewcastle-Brown.

“Police have recorded statements from the three individuals in relation to the defamatory articles by Rewcastle-Brown,” he said.

On July 8, police said it would investigate the leak of information regarding the probe into 1 Malaysia Development Bhd, and said it would also probe members of the task force itself.
