DCA reaches out to aviation authorities surrounding La Reunion Island

PUTRAJAYA: The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is reaching out to several aviation authorities within the surrounding La Reunion Island territories to allow experts to conduct more substantive analysis.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said this would provide more clues to the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH370 should there be more debris recovered on the island.

“We know the flaperon has been identified as being part of a Boeing 777 aircraft.

“This has been verified by French authorities together with aircraft manufacturer Boeing, U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Malaysian team comprising the DCA, MAS, and Malaysian ICAO Annex 13 Safety Investigation Team for MH370,” he said in a statement.

The 2m-long flaperon was discovered last Wednesday on the Island of La Reunion.

MH370 went missing on March 8 last year just an hour after take-off while en route to Beijing, China from Kuala Lumpur carrying 239 passengers and crew.
