Adam Adli, two others file legal challenge against remand

KUALA LUMPUR: Activists Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Ahmad Syukri Ab Razab and Mandeep Singh have filed a legal challenge against their remand linked to an illegal rally held in the city centre, Saturday.

The trio's counsel Michelle Yesudas filed the application at the High Court Registry here today to set aside the remand order issued by magistrate Ashraf Rezal Abdul Manan on Aug 1.

During the remand hearing at the Jinjang remand centre on Saturday, Ashraf ordered Adam, 26, and Syukri, 29, be remanded for six days while Mandeep, 29, was ordered remanded for four days.

They were remanded to assist police investigation under Section 124B of the Penal Code for alleged involvement in activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Adam, Syukri and Mandeep, currently still under remand, claimed the remand order was baseless and went against the law because the trio was arrested on Friday, a day before the assembly, among others.

Michelle said her clients' bid has been fixed for hearing before the High Court here at 2.30pm tomorrow.
