KUALA LUMPUR: A restaurant assistant was jailed two months by the magistrate's court for stealing three packets of facial wash at a shopping mall here two days ago.
Jaafar Mohd Kushari, 34, pleaded guilty today to committing the theft at Pasaraya Kompleks Sogo here around noon on Aug 1.
On that day, he was apprehended by security personnel who found the packets in his shirt and pants pockets.
Jaafar's failure to produce a receipt caused the security guards to call the police who came to the mall and arrested him around 12.25pm.
Today, Jaafar claimed he stole the items because he did not have enough money to pay for them.
Magistrate Muhamad Faizal Ismail then handed down the jail sentence and ordered Jaafar to serve the custodial term from the date of arrest.
Deputy public prosecutor N. Joy Jothi prosecuted while Jaafar was unrepresented.
