GHB aspirant sworn-in as councillor

GEORGE TOWN: A reinstated Pas councillor at the Penang Island City Council has pledged to join Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) once it was a legal entity.

Councillor Mhd Nasir Yahya said he is technically a Pas member and was appointed to the council in his personal capacity.

“I am still a member of Pas until GHB is an official political party. Then I will most likely hop over.

“I feel my political leanings are very similar to GHB,” he told reporters after being sworn-in as a councillor today.

Nasir took the oath of office before Mayor Datuk Patahiyah Ismail at the City Hall here today.

Nasir, 62, was the first Pas councillor to heed to a call by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to all Pas members to quit from government positions, following a Pas-DAP divorce.

He was appointed as councillor last year and was re-appointed this year.

Nasir is a member in the Financial Management, Infrastructure and Traffic as well as Enforcement and Public Education standing committees.

Councillor Dahalan Fadzil, from the Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) had also resigned at the same time as Nasir.

Dahalan was also reappointed as councillor.
