12 families left homeless in Taman Melawati fire

KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve families lost their home when a fire broke out in a shophouse along Jalan Negara, Taman Melawati here this evening.

The fire broke out at around 7.20pm destroying the room’s partitions on the third floor of the building where twelve families live in.

Hulu Langat Fire and Rescue department operations officer Zafiruddin Mohd Nasir said personnel from Wangsa Maju, Selayang, Dato Keramat and Setapak were deployed to the scene after receiving a call at 7.22pm.

"Twenty five personnel were dispatched to the scene," he said adding that the fire was put out in 15 minutes

Fortunately there were no injuries reported.

Zafiruddin said the fire started in one of the rooms on the third floor and had spread to the whole floor.

Investigations are still ongoing to find out the cause of fire.
