KELANTAN emerged as runaway winners of the National Rugby Sevens Championships in both the senior and under-19 events at the Universiti Utara Malaysia campus in Sintok, Kedah today.
The East Coast powerhouse were rarely challenged throughout the two-day competition and took the senior title with a 52-12 thumping of Negri Sembilan in the final. Kelantan last won the title in 2011.
Kelantan had in the semi-finals drubbed Armed Forces 26-5 while Negri Sembilan downed Perak 19-17. Perak finished third overall after downing Forces 28-0 in the playoff.
The under-19 category saw Kelantan beating Perlis 33-5 in the decider. Johor, who lost to Kelantan in the last-four, came in third after downing Kuala Lumpur Saracens 12-5 in the playoff.
