Joint billing for IWK and water bill, soon: Maximus Ongkili

KUALA LUMPUR: The days of paying water and Indah Water Konsortium bills separately will soon be over in the Federal Territories as the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry is in the middle of developing a joint billing system.

A work in progress where its mechanism has been actively discussed in the cabinet since June, minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili said its aim was to make the payments more efficient.

" It will first be carried out in Labuan by Jan next year. It is expected to be then implemented in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya," he said.

The effort, he added, followed the footsteps of countries like Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

The move is expected to assist IWK which has been facing poor collection problems from households.

Maximus said this to reporters after officiating the two-day Second Malaysian International Sewerage Conference 2015 themed Malaysian Sewerage Industry - Cutting Edge Technology at Royale Chulan Hotel here today.
