Malaysian-based firm may start funding Bengali films

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian-based global consultancy firm Orange Corp may soon start funding Bengali movies through the private equity route, the Times of India reported.

Its Mumbai-based wing is starting its film financing journey with a corpus of Rs 100 crore (about RM62 million) and will spend it in a few years, its director (projects) Debasish Dutta told the English daily recently.

“We have already started investing in the Indian film industry. Tollywood, too, will be an interesting proposition. We plan to produce two to three films every year in India,” the report quoted him as saying.

Tollywood refers to the Tollygunge-based Bengali film industry in the city of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, India.

According to the report, Orange Corp is already funding Bollywood movies.

Dutta had also said that if the firm finally decides to enter Tollywood then it would not restrict itself to financing alone.

“We shall take care of promotion and marketing as well. Bengali films can be marketed globally and that is our plan. You can actually market Bengali films in at least 17 countries,” he had said. – BERNAMA
