Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia undergraduates joins community programme

KOTA TINGGI: A community programme involving 61 undergraduates from three countries is being held at Kampung Punggai, Pengerang, near here until Aug 24.

The Creativity Station 2015, which is jointly organised by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia's (UTM) Centre for Engineering Education and South Korean varsity Pusan National University's Innovation Centre for Engineering Education, involves engineering and technology-based students from 14 universities in Malaysia, South Korea and Indonesia.

UTM deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni), Prof Dr Mohd Ismail Abd Aziz said the previous Creativity Station programmes in Surabaya in August 2013 and February 2014, and later in Bali in August 2014 had provided engineering solutions for issues in the respective host communities.

This was the first time UTM is hosting the programme.

"UTM's involvement in this programme is aligned to support the realisation of the Higher Education Blueprint in developing holistic, innovative and high quality graduates," said Ismail at the official launch of Creativity Station by Tanjung Surat assemblyman Datuk Syed Sis Syed Abdul Rahman at Balai Raya Kampung Punggai, Pengerang today.

Also present were Pusan National University's Consortium of Innovation Centres for Engineering Education director, O-Kaung Lim.

A total of 61 engineering students and technology based students from 14 universities are involved in the Creativity Station 2015: 20 from Malaysia, 19 from South Korea and 22 from Indonesia.

Among the universities involved are UTM, Pusan National University, Chouaib Doukkali University, Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology, Geongsang National University, Tongmyong University, Dongseo University, Pukyong National University, Silla University, Inje University, Handong Global University, Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya, Telkom University Surabaya and Politeknik Negeri Bali.
