Quarterfinals for Shariz in sprint event

KUALA LUMPUR: Shariz Effendi Shahrin kept the Malaysian flag flying in the men's sprint as he booked a spot in the quarterfinals of the event at the Junior Track World Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

Shariz progressed to the last eight after beating Netherlands' Sam Ligtlee in the second round in a time of 10.949 seconds. He had earlier today defeated Derek Radzikiewicz of Australia in the opening round where he clocked 10.870s.

Teammate Khairil Nizam Rasol, however, did not fare as well as he lose to South Korean Oh Je-Seok (10.867s) in the first round. The quarterfinals will be held tomorrow.
