KOTA TINGGI: A family of four were killed when the Proton Wira they were was involved in a collision with a tanker at Km55.5 Jalan Sungai Rengit - Kota Tinggi at 12.20pm today.
Kota Tinggi District Police chief Superintendent Rahmat Othman said the dead were identified as Mohd Najib Mat Idris, 29, a teacher, and his wife Mahfuzah Abdul Hamid, 29, a housewife and the couple's year-old daughter, Nabiha and four-month old son, Mohd Anas.
Mahfuzah's sister, Mahirah Huda Abdul Hamid, 22, a cashier, who was in the back seat of the car sustained injuries and was rushed to Kota Tinggi Hospital.
Rahmat said the lorry was coming from the direction of Sungai Rengit and heading to Kota Tinggi. Initial investigation showed the lorry driver may have lost control of the vehicle and gone into the opposite lane before the crash occurred.
Mohd Najib was driving his vehicle from Kota Tinggi and heading to Felda Air Tawar 2.
Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue Department operations officer, Abd Rahim Abdul Rani said the department received a distress call at 12.25pm and five firemen in a fire engine were despatched to the scene.
