KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Team Asia rider Khairul Idham Pawi will make his debut as a wildcard in the Moto3 World Championship at the Grand Prix of Aragon in Spain on September 27.
Khairul has proven himself a worthy candidate for the wildcard slot having impressed in the Moto3 Junior World Championships this year.
Despite it being his first year in the junior series, he has bagged three podium finishes from six races so far and is currently ranked third overall in the series with 80 points.
Khairul, who turns 17 on September 20, said he was grateful for the opportunity.
“I am so happy to debut in the World Championship at Motorland Aragon (circuit)," said Khairul.
"Honda gave me a wildcard and I will try to do the best for Honda Team Asia and my family. Thank you Honda and Boon Siew Honda for this opportunity,”
The youngster recently signed a four-year contract to ride for Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd alongside reigning FIM Asia Road Racing Championship Champion Zaqhwan Zaidi.
