Terengganu declares assets every three years

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu executive councillors and senior civil servants have been declaring their personal assets every three years as required by the federal administration.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said that it was already a practice long taken by the state government to have its senior public officers to make the declaration.

"There is no question about this. The rule is already in place and the state secretary oversees the matter personally.

"In fact, the Public Service Department's circular also has stipulated senior civil servants to do so (declare their personal assets) or risk being considered for promotion in their posts," he said in response to the move by the Pahang state leadership to declare the assets of its state executive councillors.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and ten of its state executive councillors had made a pledged to that effect within the next three weeks as part of their commitment to fight corruption and be more transparent.

Ahmad Razif said this at the launch of the Pesona Terengganu 2015 programme to boost tourism as the number one revenue earner for the state in place of the oil and gas industry, at Wisma Darul Iman, yesterday.

He added that the sate administration would review the procedure of declaring assets from time to time, in line with the changes in the situation.

"For instance, if someone has accrued additional assets within the three-year period, we can compel the person to make a fresh declaration accordingly," he said.

On another note, Ahmad Razif said he was confident that no Umno politician would jump ship to join the newly established PAS splinter group, Gerakan Harapan Baru.

"There are no Barisan Nasional members who have shown interest to join GHB. In fact, it is PAS that has sprung a leak in its ship and is sinking.

"I think PAS members aspiring to join GHB should really have rethink," he said, without elaborating further.
