PETALING JAYA: If America has its reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Malaysia may soon have one too.
Our very local version will depict the life of our celebrity siblings -- Emma, 24, Chacha, 19, and Yaya Maembong, 28.
“The TV series is confirmed with the working title being The Maembong Family,” said Chacha (whose real name is Siti Aisyah), when met at the launch of telemovie Oh My English: Oh My Goat - Come Baaack!! at Subak Restaurant in Bukit Lanjan here last Wednesday.
The actress who rose to fame through TV3’s 2012 drama series Setia Hujung Nyawa said, the The Maembong Family would invite audience to step into their lives and follow them as they go about their day-to-day activities.
And just like any other family units, there are sure to be some drama, she added.
Expected to be aired over Astro Ria (Astro channel 104), Chacha said, the production was still in the midst of determining the exact content, with filming slated for next month.
“Also, I hope through this reality series, fans will get to know and understand us better.
“ Many do not know how close we are with one another. Emma is my mentor and she is always there for me, advising me about everything particularly when it concerns dealing with nasty rumours.
“We hang out regularly. For me, Emma is a very special individual. I don’t know where I would be without her by my side,” she added.
Chacha said there had been many back-fence talks about their family in the social media.
For instance, when news broke out that the siblings were home-schooled, many cast a negative perception on them.
“Some quarters were quick to judge. They think that since we didn’t go to a public school, we are dumb and senseless. Like the rest of the school-going kids, we studied and sat for the national examinations too.
“The only difference is that we had teachers coming over to tutor us in the comfort of our own home.
“I hope audience will get to see how the Maembongs really are,” she said, adding that their brother Ahmad, 22, (also an actor) will also be making appearances in the show.
Meanwhile, Oh My English: Oh My Goat - Come Baaack!! is a spin-off of Astro’s popular edutainment series Oh My English!
Chacha plays the gossip-loving character Bella in this telemovie which premieres on Sept 5, at 9pm over Astro TVIQ (Astro channel 610) and Astro Maya HD (Astro channel 135).
