DAP: Anti-Bersih poster to intimidate Chinese

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has lodged a police report over posters threatening violence against Chinese participants during the Bersih 4 street demonstration this weekend.

The party’s national organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook said several copies of the posters were scattered at the main lobby of DAP’s headquarters here.

“The poster is a clear threat (against the Chinese). We strongly condemn any attempts by people to scare the Chinese from attending the rally,” Loke told reporters during a press conference here today.

Loke, who is also Seremban member of parliament, said similar threats had been issued by irresponsible parties during previous Bersih rallies.

“Our members have lodged a police report (over the matter). We urge the police to take swift and stern action against the perpetrators,” he said, adding that the same posters were found in other areas in the city.

Present during the press conference was Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) chairman Mohamad Sabu.

The former Pas deputy president, who was also the head of the previous Bersih rallies, said the posters were a deliberate attempt to intimidate the Chinese and spark racial tension.

“The rally has nothing to do with race… we are just fighting for clean and fair elections,” Mohamad said.

“We will deploy 1,000 members of GHB’s Unit Amal Relif to help with crowd control and to keep the peace.”
