Civil servants in Sarawak not allowed joining Bersih 4 rally

KUCHING: Civil servants in the state are not allowed to participate in the Bersih 4 rally, which would be held concurrently at three locations in the country including Sarawak, tomorrow.

In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today, it was also stated that civil servants are bound by the General Orders, which restrict them from joining the rally.

The CMO also clarified several reports published by online portals claiming that Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has no reservation about civil servants joining the rally planned at the Song Kheng Hai rugby field here.

"What he (Adenan) actually meant was that it is within the civil society's right to assemble subject to the law.

"Civil servants are not permitted to join the Bersih 4 rally as they are bound by the General Orders," said the statement.
