Malaysian student shines at Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp

KANGAR: A Malaysian student did the country proud when her group was recognised as the best at the Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp 2015 in Basel, Switzerland.

Nurul Aqilah Aqiludeen from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) together with one student from Vietnam, the Philippines, Germany, Morocco and United Kingdom respectively and two Swiss students brushed aside 63 other participants from all over the world.

Another Malaysian representative, a Universiti Malaya student Kwong Soke Chee, who was competing in another group, gave her best performance despite not winning any prize.

The three-day programme, which ended today, was organised by Novartis AG of Switzerland.

Soke Chee was the winner of the recently held Malaysia BioCamp 2015, organised by Novartis Malaysia, Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation and Industry Centre of Excellence (ICoE), Healthcare Cluster, which is led by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

ICoE Healthcare chairman Datuk Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin, who is also UniMAP vice-chancellor, in a statement today said Nurul Aqilah’s success was remarkable.

He said there were two prize categories, the best group and three individual prizes.

“The success is something that we can be proud of because this is Malaysia’s first participation. I hope more students will be selected to represent the country in future,” he added.

The programme was one of the initiatives outlined in the Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education), which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in April. – BERNAMA
