Bersih 4 organisers, participants who violate the law to face legal actions

IPOH: All provisions under the existing legislation will be used against Bersih 4 organisers and participants who violated the law, even after the illegal rallies have ended.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the enforcement agencies were monitoring the situation closely and would take actions against the law breakers.

"They must face the consequences if they dare to break the law.

"Don't accuse the government as a tyrant when actions are being taken against them," he said after opening Ipoh Timur Umno division delegates' meeting here today.

The Home Minister also said the police had been empowered to take action against the culprits, including under the Peaceful Assembly Act and the Penal Code.

He said although no arrests are yet to be made since the rally started yesterday, it did not mean that the police and other enforcement agencies would not take actions soon.

Zahid also said police were also monitoring the actions and speeches of the leaders involved in the illegal assembly.

Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Ipoh Timur Umno division chief Datuk Azian Osman.
