Bersih 4: Sabah protesters disperse peacefully

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Bersih supporters dispersed peacefully at 12.05pm near Tamu KPD after police prevented them from marching further to the city centre.

The group marched for about two hours since 10am from Taman Teluk Likas II and stopped at the Tamu KPD, where FRU police blocked the road.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner M Chandra was also at the site to ensure smooth operation and prevent rally participants from causing disturbance.

Sabah Bersih organiser Jannie Lasimbang had met with Chandra to ask permission for them to pass through but it was denied.

She later told rally participants to stand down and disperse peacefully before the group made their way to the Sabah Trade Centre.

Speaking to reporters, Lasimbang said they would go to City Hall in the afternoon to pass a memorandum to Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

“We want him to know that we are not satisfied with his decision of not allowing us to use public places for peaceful demonstration.”

In the Walk For Democracy event, about 250 supporters walked along Tanjung Lipat to voice out dissatisfaction over the current government.

The event saw police closing down Jalan KK-Tanjung Lipat-KK since morning.
