Health Ministry confirms two Bersih protesters down with acute gastroenteritis

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has confirmed two cases of acute gastroenteritis affecting Bersih 4 protesters as of 1.30pm today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was confirmed by Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s Emergency and Traumatology department.

He said both the protesters were believed to have consumed tainted lychee drinks.

“Since there were only two cases, it could not be ascertained whether the acute gastroenteritis was linked to the drinks which were distributed,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

He adds that the two patients condition was not serious and they were given outpatient treatment.

Dr Noor Hisham advised those suffering from suspicious symptoms to seek treatment at the nearest hospital as soon as possible.
