Police record statements of Bersih chairman, six others

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today have recorded the statements of Bersih chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and six others involved in the 34-hour unlawful assembly held over the weekend.

Federal Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (Investigation and Law) Datuk Amar Singh confirmed that police had recorded the statements.

He however declined too elaborate.

Maria and six others including Bersih activists Mandeep Singh and Adam Adli Abd Halim were seen arriving at the Bukit Aman police headquarters at 10.20am.

They entered the premises about 10 minutes later and seen leaving the police headquarters at about 12.45pm.

Maria said among the questions asked during the questioning includes the press statement made by the committee and donations received by them.

She said all seven were investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code for activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy and Section 141 for unlawful assembly and Section 120 involving the concealing of an intention to commit an offence that is punishable with imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Maria said they have yet to receive the cleaning bill amounting to RM65,000 for the cost of cleaning up the venue around Dataran Merdeka used for the recent Bersih 4 rally.

Yesterday, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said his ministry would send a bill of RM65,000 to the organisers within this week.

On police's effort to track down two rally participants allegedly stomped on a doctored picture of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and PAS party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to assist investigation, Maria urged the duo to take responsibility for what they had done.
