Businessman escapes death when gunmen fire towards his MPV

KUALA LUMPUR: A Datuk Seri narrowly escapes death as gunmen fired more than eight shots towards his vehicle at the Loke Yew roundabout today.

City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the 57-year-old businessman was travelling in his multipurpose vehicle when the incident unfolded.

"The victim, along with his two bodyguards and a driver were travelling from Kajang towards the city centre.

"As the vehicle reached the roundabout, the victim heard gunshots were fired towards the Toyota Vellfire they were in," he said.

Zainuddin said the victim saw two men on a motorcycle fled towards a flyover heading to Jalan Hang Tuah.

The driver of the vehicle immediately drove towards Cheras district police station for shelter and lodged report.

Checks on the vehicle, he said, revealed the gunshots had damaged the passenger side's window and the vehicle's sunroof.

The driver, however only sustained scratches on his head, left hand and legs due to the broken window.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
